Instructions for Musical Instrument Families
This game trains students' ability to identify and categorize musical instruments, which is a central part of music education. Students practice recognizing instruments both visually through images and aurally through sound clips, as well as learning which instrument family each belongs to.
The game covers six main instrument families: brass instruments (trombone, trumpet, tuba, French horn), woodwind instruments (recorder, clarinet, flute, saxophone, oboe, bassoon, bagpipes, pan flute), string instruments (acoustic guitar, electric guitar, banjo, bass guitar, ukulele, mandolin, lyre, harp, lute, sitar, balalaika), bowed string instruments (violin, nyckelharpa, cello, double bass), keyboard instruments (piano, grand piano, organ, accordion, harpsichord), and percussion instruments (sleigh bells, cymbal, guiro, gong, tambourine, drum set, snare drum, bongo drums, congas, xylophone, maracas, vibraphone).
The game can be used as an introduction to instrument families, for review, or as individual practice where students work at their own pace. The listening exercises develop students' ear training and ability to distinguish different instrumental tone colors.
