Instructions for Instrument Recognition by Ear

This game trains aural skills and instrument recognition through active listening to authentic musical examples. Students hear audio clips featuring different instruments playing melodies and must identify which instrument they're hearing. The game covers woodwind instruments (oboe, saxophone, recorders, bassoon, clarinet), string instruments (violin, cello, double bass, nyckelharpa, rebec), and brass instruments (trumpet, trombone, tuba, French horn).

The game works both as an introduction to instrument families and as review and enrichment. It's excellent for ear training and developing the ability to distinguish different instrumental tone colors. Some audio clips contain a short introduction or accompaniment – focus on identifying the melody instrument. The game is suitable for independent work and as a starting point for classroom discussions about the characteristic qualities of different instruments.
