Can you distinguish consonants from vowels? Find the consonants in the English words!

The game Find consonants

How to play find consonats

First you choose if you want to practice with uppercase or lowercase. Then select the type of words to play with. After selecting a word category, you'll be shown ten pictures with their associated words. Your task is to find which of the letters of the word that are consonants. When you select a consonant, the letter will be green. If you instead click on a vowel, the letter will turn red. You have to find all consonants before you can continue to the next word. No letters may be red. Those letters have to marked back to white.

What is a consonant?

A consonant is a speech sound that is put together with a vowel to form a word. Consonants alone can not form a word. The word consonant is used to denote the letters of an alphabet denoting consonant sounds. In the English language the consonants are:
B
C
D
F
G
H
J
K
L
M
N
P
Q
R
S
T
V
W
X
Y
Z

Hard and soft consonants

The letters C and G can be pronounced in two distinct ways: soft or hard. A soft C is pronounced like an S and a hard C is pronounced like a K. A soft G is pronounced like a J and a hard G is pronounced with a G sound (as in 'go').

Calculation of knowledge points

Each completed game level in Find consonants gives 1 knowledge points. You can collect a maximum of 24 knowledge points by completing all 24 levels.
In the game Find consonants, you can earn a total of 72 medals. Medals are awarded based on how many times you have completed a level:
  • Bronze medal: after completing 2 rounds.
  • Silver medal: after completing 5 rounds.
  • Gold medal: after completing 10 rounds.
Knowledge points are only awarded for levels you have not completed before, meaning those that do not yet have checked green circles. Even after completing a level and earning both knowledge points and medals, you can continue practicing it. However, this will not grant any additional knowledge points or medals.

Liam: The letter Y may sometimes be considered a vowel, but most often it's a consonant. It depends on the sound it represents. Look at the description of the game Find vowels.

Hello! I like this program, it´s funny! But I wonder, the letter y is a vocal, not a consonant! Can you fix this, please?
