Game to help students practice English words using the Magic E rule.

The game Magic E

Instructions for Magic E

The "magic E" is a common concept in English phonics that helps young learners understand how certain vowels are pronounced in words. It refers to the letter "e" that appears at the end of a word, which usually remains silent but changes the sound of the preceding vowel. Here's how it works:

  1. Without the magic E: The vowel in a word typically has its short sound.
    • Example: "hat" (short "a" sound).
  2. With the magic E: The silent "e" at the end of the word makes the preceding vowel "say its name," or take on its long sound.
    • Example: "hate" (the silent "e" makes the "a" long, so it sounds like /heɪt/).

Key examples:

  • capcape
  • kitkite
  • robrobe

In these examples, the "magic E" causes the vowel in the middle of the word to change from its short sound (as in "cap," "kit," or "rob") to its long sound (as in "cape," "kite," or "robe"). The "e" itself is silent but plays a crucial role in altering the vowel pronunciation.

This game is a great tool for helping children understand English spelling patterns and improve reading skills, though there are some exceptions where the rule doesn't apply.

MemoryMemory - The level consists of 15 pairs (consisting of identical words paired with each other), but a maximum of 10 pairs are practiced per game round. The student's task is to find two cards that match. If two matching cards are found, they are removed from the board. The game is finished when all 10 pairs of cards have been found and the memory has no cards left. There is no time limit. Calculation of knowledge points and medals

Each completed game level in Magic E gives 1 knowledge points. You can collect a maximum of 8 knowledge points by completing all 8 levels.
In the game Magic E, you can earn a total of 24 medals. Medals are awarded based on how many times you have completed a level:
  • Bronze medal: after completing 2 rounds.
  • Silver medal: after completing 5 rounds.
  • Gold medal: after completing 10 rounds.
