Instructions for European Governments: Democracy and Political Systems

This game teaches students about different forms of government, focusing on parliamentary and presidential democracies compared to autocracies. Students will learn key political vocabulary and explore the specific governmental structures of Germany, Russia, and the United Kingdom, including their executive and legislative branches. The game begins with European geography review to provide context for studying these political systems.

1. Europe Map (Review of Geography)

Image markupsImage markups - The level consists of 9 image markup questions and all of them are practiced in every game round. Each image question is answered by writing the correct answer that fits the blinking dot in the image. The student must enter the correct answer without color hints and has 3 attempts to write the correct word or sentence in each question's text field that are case-sensitive, i.e. upper and lower case is important. The student receives feedback on each keystroke to make it easier to type the correct answer. If the entered character is correct, the text turns green and if it's incorrect, the text turns red. If the student answers a task incorrectly, the game round can be continued, but the round is marked as not completed. Questions have text-to-speech in English. There is no time limit. When the student has found all the correct picture markings, the game round is completed. If it is too difficult, the player can click the button labeled Cancel - then all the correct dots in the image will be displayed - and try to complete the level again.

2. Government Vocabulary (Fill-in-the-blank with key political terms)

Cloze testCloze test - The level consists of 9 cloze texts and all of them are practiced in every game round. The order of the cloze texts is randomized each game round. In the game, the student is presented with 9 questions texts where certain parts (words or numbers) are hidden. These words or numbers have been replaced by fields where the student must either fill in the correct word, or select the correct word from a list. Sometimes, there's a question mark ? after the blank - if the player clicks on it a hint will be shown. The student has 3 attempts to write the correct word in the game's blanks. A cloze text usually requires the reader to understand the context of the text in order to fill in the blank with the correct word. It may therefore be necessary to read the text several times. The colze texts have text-to-speech in English. There is no time limit. When the student has filled in all the blanks correctly, the game round is complete. If any blank is too difficult, the student can click the Cancel button - this shows all the correct answers to the gaps - and the player can try to complete the cloze text again.

3. Autocracy or Democracy

Multiple choiceMultiple choice - The level consists of 11 questions, but a maximum of 10 questions are practiced per game round. For each question, the player is given two or three possible answers, only one of which is correct. It is up to the player to choose the correct option. The student has 3 hearts (extra lives) that keep the game round going. Questions have text-to-speech in English. Answers have text-to-speech in English. There is no time limit. When the student has selected all the correct answers, the game round is completed. If it is too difficult, the player can click the button labeled Cancel - then the correct answers will be displayed - and try to complete the level again.
