The game Homeostasis

Instructions for Homeostasis

Homeostasis is the physiological process that helps maintain the stability of an organism's internal environment in response to changes in the external environment. The goal of homeostasis is to keep the internal conditions of the body within a narrow range, allowing cells to function optimally. This process involves a series of feedback mechanisms that regulate various physiological variables such as temperature, pH, blood sugar levels, and fluid balance. Homeostasis is crucial for the proper functioning of cells and organs. It ensures that essential physiological processes can occur within a narrow range of conditions, promoting overall health and stability in living organisms.

Find the terms in Homeostasis.

Write the written clues and write the correct terms that appropriate with the clues. You have three chances to guess the correct terms for each clue.

1. Terms in homeostasis (Link up with descriptions)

Link upLink up - The level consists of 20 questions, but a maximum of 10 questions are practiced per game round. The player's task is to link the 10 questions in the colored boxes with the most appropriate answers in the white boxes. Each colored box can only be linked to one white box and vice versa. The student receives feedback on the links before submission and has 3 attempts to get all the links right. Questions have speech synthesis in English. Answers have speech synthesis in English. There is no time limit. When the student has linked all the boxes correctly, the game round is completed. If it is too difficult, the player can click the button named Cancel - then the correct links are displayed - and then try to complete the level again.

2. Guess terms in homeostasis

Guess wordGuess word - The level consists of 20 words, but a maximum of 1 word are practiced per game round. Here the student has to find the word or sentence by suggesting letters from the alphabet. If the suggested letter is in the requested word, the letter is filled in at all the right places in the letter slots. If the letter is not in the word then a balloon pops. If the player can guess the right letters and find the word before all the 3 balloons run out, the round is won. For each word there is a clue to help the player guess the word. The time limit to complete the game level is 2.2 minutes (130 seconds). If it is too difficult, the player can click the button named Cancel - then the correct word will be displayed - and then try to complete the level again.

3. Fill in the blank

Cloze testCloze test - The level consists of 3 cloze texts and all are practiced every game round. The order of the cloze texts is randomized each game round. In the game, the student is presented with 3 questions texts where certain parts (words or numbers) are hidden. These words or numbers have been replaced by fields where the student must either fill in the correct word, or select the correct word from a list. Sometimes, there's a question mark ? after the blank - if the player clicks on it a hint will be shown. The student has 3 attempts to write the correct word in the game's blanks. A cloze text usually requires the reader to understand the context of the text in order to fill in the blank with the correct word. It may therefore be necessary to read the text several times. The colze texts have speech synthesis in English. There is no time limit. When the student has filled in all the blanks correctly, the game round is complete. If any blank is too difficult, the student can click the Cancel button - this shows all the correct answers to the gaps - and the player can try to complete the cloze text again.

Calculation of knowledge points and medals

Each completed game level in Homeostasis gives 1 knowledge points. You can collect a maximum of 3 knowledge points by completing all 3 levels.
In the game Homeostasis, you can earn a total of 9 medals. Medals are awarded based on how many times you have completed a level:
  • Bronze medal: after completing 2 rounds.
  • Silver medal: after completing 5 rounds.
  • Gold medal: after completing 10 rounds.
Knowledge points are only awarded for levels you have not completed before, meaning those that do not yet have checked green circles. Even after completing a level and earning both knowledge points and medals, you can continue practicing it. However, this will not grant any additional knowledge points or medals.
